  • Minor Security Issue with Log4Net

    Matt Mason · 0 · Posted

There was recently a security issue published on the internet about the Apache Log4net component: https://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2018-1285/

Unlike the previous issue about Apache Log4J, Clarity DOES in fact use this component.

We do not believe that this security issue meaningfully affects Clarity customers. Here is why:

If you have concerns about this issue, please reach out to us via support (at) rand.com.

  • IMPORTANT: Desktop Connector Update

Matt Mason · 1 · Last reply by Dan Warren

We have been working with Autodesk for some time, trying to identify why the Desktop Connector and AdSSO components have been frequently "stepping on one another", causing the loss of the BIM360 token on Clarity Task Servers.

Autodesk today released Desktop Connector 15.4.0.1677 Download: https://help.autodesk.com/view/CONNECT/ENU/?guid=GUID-03D59AAD-65B0-45E3-84F2-A12AAA5BB267

According to one Clarity customer who was involved in pre-release testing of this version, it resolved more than 70% of the "lost token" issues. While this is not 100% - we're extremely grateful for this kind of progress.

We strongly recommend deploying this version of Desktop Connector to anyone who has had issues of the BIM360

  • No Issues with Log4J

    Matt Mason · 0 · Posted

We have had a variety of customers asking for a statement of whether we're affected by the Log4J / Log4Shell vulnerability.

We do not use Log4J (or any other Java, for that matter) - so we should be unaffected.

We DO use Autodesk Forge - and at one point a customer indicated that Autodesk's trust-and-security page still had "Forge" as pending. Autodesk has expanded the statuses on this page:

    https://www.autodesk.com/trust/security-advisories/adsk-sa-2021-0012

    Clarity does use:

    - Forge Data Management:  Not Vulnerable

    - Forge Design Automation: Mitigated (and we only use only if you opt into Clarity Cloud Processing)

    - Forge Model Derivative

  • Clarity 2022.1 Installer Issue: Mitigated

    Matt Mason · 0 · Posted

Last week we reported that a percentage of customers encountered an issue during installation which was causing their Clarity web application to not work after install. Root Cause: During an upgrade install, the Clarity Host Installer issued a command to stop all of the Microsoft IIS services—to ensure that no files are in-use when we attempt to remove/replace/upgrade them. For some customers, this command either:

In these cases, the DLLs for the web application did not get properly replaced, and it caused issues after the installation. NOTE: If you successfully installed the software, and your web application worked—then there is

  • Autodesk Desktop Connector and AdSSO

At present, the best combination that we are seeing for stability seems to be:

    • Desktop Connector: 14.10.0.1456  / AdSSO: 12.3.3.1803

    Other "Known Good Combinations" include:

    • Desktop Connector: 14.11.0.1476  / AdSSO: 12.2.2.1802
    • NO Desktop Connector (if you can live without it) / AdSSO:12.3.3.1803

You can see the versions you have installed in the Control Panel, Programs and Features.

As you know, the Desktop Connector releases come out every month, so it's difficult to keep track of exactly which combinations work best. If you don't see your version combination listed above, it may still be fine - but if you're encountering issues with

  • IMAGINiT Clarity Cloud Announcement

    Matt Mason · 0 · Posted

We're happy to announce a new product related to IMAGINiT Clarity - IMAGINiT Clarity Cloud.

Clarity Cloud is an early-stage product to demonstrate using Clarity entirely in the cloud, with no on premise hardware.

As of now, it works only with BIM360 projects, and all of the tasks are done in the cloud, either by IMAGINiT or by Autodesk Forge.

While the on-premise tool remains much more powerful and flexible, we're excited to see how Clarity Cloud can grow over time.

    For more information, see:

  • Maintaining the Autodesk Login Token (Problems and Help)

    Matt Mason · 0 · Posted

Many of our customers have encountered challenges with maintaining the Autodesk Login Token, which keeps your Clarity Task Server signed in to Revit as a particular user.

We'd like to review some basic information about the problem and then talk about some recent improvements on our side:

    The Basics

The token is shared between all Autodesk products on a particular machine. By itself, each token lasts for 14 days. So it should only be necessary to sign in once every 14 days.

However - with the advent of Autodesk Desktop Connector, this changed. With Desktop Connector installed - Desktop Connector

  • Clarity/Revit BIM360 login

Matt Mason · 5 · Last reply by Matt Mason

Over the past 2 months, we've encountered more customers having trouble with keeping their Revit task servers signed in to BIM360. This is due to a confluence of factors, including updates by Autodesk to Revit 2020.2 and Autodesk Desktop Connector.

The symptom was that instead of extending your signed-in Revit token, the desktop connector seemed to be wiping out the stored token after 1-3 days - meaning that you would need to sign in again.

Autodesk has been investigating this changed behavior, and it recommends that users upgrade to the newest Autodesk Desktop Connector (12.4).

    IMAGINiT has also improved its
