The "# of CAD Links" model metric isn't reporting the correct value

The metric logged for "# of CAD Links" appears to be reporting imports (not just links) or parts of exploded imports. These are somewhat different problems and calling these all "CAD Links" is a bit misleading - I can assure you this model does not have 2400 linked CAD files. Is there a way to make a distinction between these two things? CAD Links vs Imports or something?

i'm having the same issue on my end where the # of CAD links reported does not match the actual links.  I also agree with previous posts as to what is being reported:  the links or the imports or both?  it's bit misleading and i really wish something was done about it

Dan,

Appreciate the resurrection - I feel like we looked at it in the past, but will look again.

I see this post is more than a year old but it is still an ongoing issue.

We're finding the same issue where the '# of Links' and the '# of CAD Links' don't line up. Curious where this information is actually being pulled from in the models.MicrosoftTeams-image (2).png

I don't see a consolidated metric as being very useful, but in addition to the two you mentioned above, there's a distinction between the number of linked DWG showing in the manage links dialog and the number of placed instances of those links that might be helpful... kind of a type/instance distinction. When you link a DWG into the model as a 3D element vs linking into the current view only.

  • # of CAD Links (as visible in the Manage Links page) - type
  • # of CAD Links (current view only) - instances of links
  • # of CAD Imports

Eric - I agree that they should be made separate.

Do you feel like there's no benefit to a consolidated metric? Should we just have two:

- # of CAD Links  (as visible on the Manage Links page)

- # of CAD Imports

Can other people weigh in here?

Matt- Sorry to resurrect this post from the dead. I literally just had this conversation with my BIM Team. We were going through the Clarity metrics and saw it's hard to establish a distinction between CAD Links and CAD Imports.

Sorry the following is fuzzy- (Left) CAD Links = 330 & (Right) # of Imports = 329.

Then when I open the model and pull the CAD Info via Ideate Explorer:
CAD Imports = 329 with CAD Links = 0

Then just to be a little extra difficult we ran the Model Checker: too and got the following: CAD Links = 0 & CAD Imports = 329
