Modify Tasks En Masse

Wouldn't it be great to be able to modify tasks in groups?

We have multiple tasks with the exact same settings and names across at least 150 projects. It would be very nice to be able to modify tasks by type, as opposed to just instance (to use Revit lingo).

Maybe there could be a "Tags" field for tasks? Then we could manage the primary task settings (the ones on top) by type, name, and/or tag.

This would be a big time saver! To my knowledge, if I have to make a change to a task shared by many projects, I have to either go in them one by one and change the setting(s), or go into the database and figure out a way to edit the SQL.

Thank You,

Holden

Matt, I think it is possible to edit all the fields for a number of tasks of the same "type". I've got an idea from the Mp3Tag app. When multiple files are selected the app suggests to keep original values by default:

In that way I can override any field I want.

Evgeny,

Although it would require you to re-do your tasks, I'm not sure why I didn't previously recommend "Task Templates" as the way to accomplish this. Task Templates are new in - I think 2021.0? or 2020.1?  You can get to them on the Global Tasks/Task Setup/Templates tab.

They allow you to set up a task in one place, and then push that task out to many projects - and the tasks in those projects maintain a link back to the template - so that if you modify the template - the updates can be re-pushed to every project using the template.

Best Regards,

Matt

Matt,

I know about the task templates, but never gave it a try. They should work fine for most cases.

The batch task editing is a "nice to have" feature, but I understand it would take much work and makes a little difference.

Thank you,
Evgeny.

Holden - the only mechanism today is a Windows tool in the

C:\Program Files\IMAGINiT Technologies\Tools    folder on the host, called "TaskUtility".

But I think it just covers some simple scenarios we've been asked for in the past, like Enabling/Disabling and setting Only-On-Change.

Take a look at it and see if you can suggest the specific feature you'd like to see added there - if it makes sense.
