Show The Model that Sheet Sets Come From

Currently, when setting up PDF exports in the PDF Task, the View/Sheet Set to Print list shows all the sheet sets from all of the models in the project.  This makes it very difficult to track down the correct one without actually opening the models up.  It would be really nice if there was a way to index, filter or just show which model each Sheet Set is coming from.

The same thing is true with the Print Setup.  In this project there are 50+ print setups coming from the models.

it’s possible to make a report that shows each set by model. But we’ve struggled in the past to show the information within the task window. If the same sheet set existed in 10 models, would you want to see it 10 times?

(if we can get guidance on a good user interface idea, we could potentially make something happen).

Hey Matt.  Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  To answer your question, yes I think I would want to see each sheet set even if it existed in 10 different models IF I can figure out which one is coming from each model.

Correct me if I am wrong, but unless you select [ALL SHEETS] aren't you sort of required to then hone in on one specific model and its specific Sheet Set?  If that is case (it has been when I have used it), could you make a drop down somewhere that selects the correct model and then View/Sheet Set to Print Drop down then only shows the sheet set associated with that model?  Ideally it would be done when selecting the Target file, but I understand if that isn't possible.

If none of that is possible, the other thing that would be useful would be to just allow the View/Sheet Set to Print drop down to show everything, but find a way to organize it by the model.  I don't know if that can be done through a filter in the "five dots" next to the light bulb or by just allowing the drop down to have bold un-selectable "headers" or something...

That's good feedback.

We do have some firms that - if they have multiple of their own models (or they coordinate with other firms) - have a consistently named SheetSet across multiple models.

We have poked around at trying to make the dropdown list be sensitive to when you've already changed the target - but that's a bit challenging. I actually like making the "View Expression" pop up dialog perhaps tabbed, so that you could lookup sheet sets in that window a bit more dynamically...

Let's see if others vote this idea up...

Nick - this was a good idea. We have an implementation of the concept in the Clarity 2021 beta version.
