16.3 Desktop Connector Issue Mitigated

Clarity Task Server 2024 has a feature which does its best to auto-select whatever projects your are performing tasks on within your Desktop Connector environment. This is an inexact approach, but it is all that Autodesk allows us to do (we've pushed them for an API, or a change in behavior to better support Task Servers).

When 16.3 Desktop Connector was released, some customers saw problems with our automation to auto-select projects. On August 3rd, we released a task server update that mitigates the issues that were seen.

We still recommend staying on Desktop Connector 15.8 for as long as you can, but we realize that everyone will eventually be dragged into 16.x by circumstances. Please make sure that you keep your task servers up-to-date to receive the newest updates.

Hi Guys,
Autodesk are pressing us to install Desktop Connector 16.6 released last week, to test the fixes they claim are in the new version (files getting deleted unknowingly when user didn't perform the action)

I see in the release notes that they touched the Project selection to increase to 60 projects, so assume they also touched other items that may affect clarity.

We are installing 16.6 on 2 local laptops  but suspect we'll have to at some point soon after upgrade the rest of our user base and the task server's as well.

Just wondering if the recent changes are likely to hurt clarity operation?

Thanks

Brooke,

If you're coming from another 16.x version, I would not expect so, but we're just doing the testing this week on it ourselves.

If you're coming from 15.8, I think it's important to:

1. Start by selecting your most used projects manually.

2. Make sure that Clarity Task Tray has the option turned on to "Auto-Select Desktop Connector Projects"

3. Keep an eye on it for the first few days to make sure it's functioning smoothly.

NOTE: Our auto-selection is going to remove 1 old project if you are over the old 40 limit each time, but we will have a task server update out soon that recognizes the new limit.

Sherry,

I know that I am currently still using 15.8 and our firm is still not using Revit 2024 yet either due to the Schema error that the update created. However, we are about to start using 2024 again and Revit 2024 requires the use of Desktop Connector 16.x.  We are going to have to upgrade our Desktop Connector soon. Is there a more stable version that works with Clarity or should I just keep the Desktop Connector updated to the most current version?

Lisa,

16.4 is stable, I'm not sure if development has finished testing 16.5

Just wanted to bounce this topic. We're feeling pressure to move to 16.x but are very wary about how this is going to impact Clarity. We're planning on upgrading Clarity to the latest version and rolling out 16.x soon.

How stable is this fix and are there any specific issues or tips we should know about? as a thought experiment, If Clarity stays on 15.8 and our users update to 16.X what issues can we expect to see.

Dan -

To give my perspective on it - it is still a bit fragile. It feels like each Autodesk monthly update has touched something that required an update from us (when we discovered it). We're getting better each time though.

If you can stay with 15.8 - that's better - to not have to deal with this at all. But I expect all firms will be dragged into 16.x at some point soon.

If you stay on 15.8 for task servers while users are in 16.x:

- Any links that are created to files in Desktop Connector 16.x will not be readable by a machine in 15.8.

Best Regards,

Matt

Sherry,

Is this still an issue with Revit 2024.1 and Desktop Connector 16.3? We have updated all users to these two versions but have not updated the Task Server yet. Any updates?

Thanks,

Bruce G.

Bruce,

Sorry - yes, a fix was issued for this on 3-August.
