Clarity Client How To Set the Default Server for Metrics

If you don’t want to have to sign into the Clarity Client so that the users machine will track metrics like file open and sync times as well as untracked models, you can modify a config file to control this.

Note:  This will only track when you open a file that is workshared.

To Set Default Server for Metrics

You will need to edit a config file on the users machine to make this change.

  • The config file location is in the following location for all versions of Revit.
    • C:\ProgramData\IMAGINiT Technologies\ClarityClient.dll.config
    • Make a backup copy of the file before changing anything and change the .config to .ORIG
    • Open the .config file in Notepad and add your server name between the "".
    • If you would also like to track model time and idle time, make the following changes shown above for those two items.
    • Saveas
    • If you get an error saving the file, save it to the desktop, then move it into the folder and overwrite.

Make sure it is still seen as a configuration file or it will not work.

This information is sent back to Clarity once Revit is closed.

Correct,

logging into Clarity is not required if the "DefaultServerForMetrics" value is set in their configuration file.

If you feel that it is not properly being captured, you can spot check by retrieving their journal files, and looking at the end of them (they should show the data being sent to Clarity at the close of the Revit session). You're also welcome to send them in to us for us to review.

Best Regards,

Hi Sherry, We have done the above and and have been tracking and collecting the data to ensure its accuracy. But, I'm not confident that the collected data is accurate. For instance, some high-rated users recorded a total of only 4.61 hours (16,611 seconds) of actual time spent on the model during the period from 01/11/2024 to 30/11/2024.

Please let me know your thoughts. The image is from the Power BI report, and we are using the Rand database. Please note that the users might only close the model once or twice weekly and may not always sign in to the Clarity Revit add-in. However, I assume that logging into the Clarity add-in is not required for recording user activities, such as elements added, deleted, or active time spent on the model, provided the modifications in the DLL configuration file have been implemented.
