Filter Files Based on a Sub-Folder

We have a couple of standard sub-folders under our working folder where our models live.  1 is for archive copies of the Revit model, the other is for linked Revit models from consultants.

We would like to be able to include the linked models folder, but exclude the archive folder.  I can do this with the individual files, but it would be much easier to be able to set those up when we create the project and not have to manage it with each archive or update.

Tom,

have you checked out the File Filters yet?

its possible to build file filters that are applied at the project level and can be copied to each new project.

Matt

I agree with the request. It would be great to get to File filters faster to check what they are. Change the project home page - Pencil icon - File Filters to go straight to Advanced File Filters.

Even better would be to create Master template File Filters that you can apply to all projects like the way Templete Tasks work.

Matt,

Yes.  Those all appear to be individual file based filters.  I would like to filter based on sub-folders.

Here is our standard folder structure for where Revit files are located for a project.

The main Revit file would just go under the 02-Revit folder.  Archive copies (earlier phases, alternate design studies, etc.) get moved to the Archive folder.  I don’t want/need these in Clarity.  Linked files from our consulting team go under the \Links folder.  I would like to include those files in Clarity.

When I initially setup a project, I’d like to include a filter to include 1 sub-folder and exclude the other.  I don’t want our BIM Specialists or Model Managers to have to go in and manually adjust the filter for each project as it progresses.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

The "basic" screen for filters lets you pick individual files.

The "advanced" screen lets you put in rules about the path containing or excluding certain text.

(so for example you could say:

- Include all files that end with .rvt
- Exclude anything that contains "archive"

(it's quirky, but you can only do an exclude if you have an include first).

Matt,

Thanks!  That's what I wanted.

It isn't real clear (at least to me) that the filters are applied to the entire file name and subfolder path.  When I initially looked at it I thought it was just the filename.  I've got this working on a couple of projects now.

Peter,

thanks- make sure you vote up the ideas you like.

note that you can copy filters between projects or from the atemplate project on creation.
