Advantages of using a Secure Service Account to access Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360:

• More secure than a traditional OAuth connection:
  • - There is no user password (cannot be stolen, hacked or mis-used like typical passwords).
  • - It can only be used by the Clarity application, no humans, no other apps.
  • - It is designed to be more restricted/scoped to limit access.
  • - The access will expire in one year if not used.
• The tokens involved can never "go bad". They never require human intervention to "reset" the connection.

Disadvantages of using a Secure Service Account

• If you already have set up Clarity access for an account to many hubs and projects:
  • - You (and all other ACC Account Owners) will need to separately authorize the "Clarity with SSA" app, in order to be able to see those ACC Accounts.
  • - The SSA process creates a new Autodesk Identity - that robotic user will need to be added to all of the same projects/accounts that any previous account had been added to.
• The Secure Service Account created is ONLY usable for Autodesk Platform Services access. It cannot sign in on a task server to operate Revit or AutoCAD like a regular Autodesk user can. As such, you will still need one or more separate accounts to automate Revit or AutoCAD on the Clarity Task Servers, and you will still need to arrange for access for your "regular" account.

1. The IMAGINiT Clarity Cloud must be Active in the hub you will be adding projects from
   1. 
2. The published files should show up in Clarity after about 5 – 10 minutes.

The BIM360/ACC Authorization must be Active

360 Project Configuration

The Oauth identity setup in Clarity Cloud must be a project member of all projects you want to add to Clarity.

That identity must also be a part of the document management team with appropriate permissions to the folders you need to access to be able to perform the tasks you want to run on the project.

If you have on premises task servers, you likely have multiple 360 credentials for the different task servers and the primary one used to add projects.  Each of those identities needs to be assigned to all projects in 360 that you want to add to Clarity, and each of those also has to be part of the Docs team.

360 Permissions and License

On Premise Task Servers

It will also be necessary for you to have the appropriate permissions to access the live model, including a valid ACC license for the task server 360 identity.   For a Collaborated file, that will require a Collaboration Pro license for each Task Server identity accessing 360 models.

It is not required that the member be a project admin, but they will need the proper permission assignments to the folders if not.

Clarity Project Authorization

The Oauth identity assigned to the project must be added and valid in the Clarity Cloud on the INTEGRATIONS tab in order for us to see the published models in the project in 360/ACC.

What Does This Mean?

From a Clarity Cloud tenant, you can choose where your tasks are executed:

• In the Cloud, using Autodesk APS Design Automation (pay-per-hour)
• On Premise, using your own hardware software (fixed price-per-year)

Having tasks execute on-premise addresses a number of issues:

• Can perform tasks that require access to local software and resources (i.e. Navisworks Exporters, PDF, etc)
• Allows you to specify the appropriate hardware to open Revit models (for example, if 64 GB RAM is required)
• Controls your cost for task execution
